The Unperfekthaus is a creative community house on several floors of a former Franciscan monastery in Essen's city centre, open to guests and members since 2004. Day entry is paid at the counter downstairs – €7, €10 (the normal price) or €15 to support the house – and includes unlimited cappuccino, espresso, tea, cocoa and soft drinks on every floor. Coworkers use desks, group tables and lounges with Wi-Fi and monitors, surrounded by workshops, a 3D printer, video, podcast and photo studios, a yoga room, massage chairs, guitars and e-pianos, a large winter garden and roof terraces; almost every room has daylight and opens onto a balcony or terrace. The CoWorker membership costs €200 a month, can be cancelled at any time and adds a lockable locker and a mailbox with a postal address. Eleven bookable rooms of 12 to 175 m² host seminars, workshops and events for up to 120 people, and the house has its own hotel. With artists, founders, students and remote workers under one roof, it is sometimes very quiet and sometimes very lively.

Review summary
Across 28 detailed Google reviews, Unperfekthaus Essen reads as a lively, creative multi-use house where members come to work, eat and meet. Food is the theme members raise most often, and the vegan options in particular earn praise. The atmosphere is the second constant: reviewers describe “a lovely workshop atmosphere” and a house full of creativity and life, and several highlight the sense of community that comes with it. Value matters as well, with members noting that it is “really cheap and meets expectations”. Reviewers also find the house spacious and well located, two discover quiet, comfortable spots for work, and individual reviews mention high-speed internet, a very clean room and a TV that connects to a laptop. The standout extras are the roof terrace, which several members single out, and the house's role as a venue. Reviewers mention space for social events and good seminar facilities. The honest gaps centre on noise and service. Two members find the house too noisy for focused work: one calls it interesting to explore but bad for working or studying, and another notes that a whole floor is repeatedly used as a rehearsal room. Two reviews criticise the staff, one for being loud and one over a charge applied without asking, and that visitor would also like a free choice between the price options on offer. One member feels consideration for others is lacking, and another finds the food and buffet are not what they used to be.
Members most consistently praise Coffee & food, Atmosphere, and Value for money. The most-raised point to know about is Quiet & focus.

A spectacular house!!! I had a full-day seminar there and unfortunately didn't have much time to explore. What I did see was a studio corner with canvas paintings on display, a large area where you can buy or even make your own jewelry, a small area where you can leave things you no longer need (presumably available for a donation), and a nook where someone was reading aloud. But the house has even more to offer... You can decorate the tables outside with your own artwork; pens and markers are available at the counter. A visit is definitely worthwhile!
