The Hacker Building is a community-first, tech-only coworking space in a canal house at Herengracht 551 in the centre of Amsterdam, between Thorbeckeplein and Vijzelstraat. It grew out of a members-run coworking community, and today it brings together software engineers, designers, bootstrapping founders, freelance developers, remote tech workers and small startup teams, more than half of them from outside the Netherlands. Everyone has a permanent desk large enough for three screens: a dedicated desk costs €450 a month and an electric sit-stand desk €550 a month, both plus VAT, on two months' notice with a two-month deposit; private offices for startup teams of 3–4 up to 4–8 people are available on request. Prices are all-inclusive: 24/7 access, meeting-room use, unlimited coffee and tea, mail handling and Chamber of Commerce registration, with no upsells. The building has phone booths, a kitchen, a quiet garden with Wi-Fi coverage, an honesty bar and symmetrical 1-gigabit fibre with a backup line. Members share catered lunches three days a week, show-and-tells, group dinners and an active Slack; you get to know the community by joining them for lunch first.

Herengracht 551, 1017 BW, Amsterdam, Netherlands
Herengracht 551 sits on the stretch of the Herengracht between Thorbeckeplein and the Vijzelstraat, in the southern part of Amsterdam's UNESCO-listed canal belt. Rembrandtplein, with its cafés and restaurants, is a few minutes' walk to the east, and Muntplein and the Flower Market are just to the north. Trams run along the Vijzelstraat, and the North–South metro line 52 stops at Rokin and Vijzelgracht, so Amsterdam Centraal and the Zuidas are quickly reached. The surrounding streets have plenty of bars, lunch and takeout spots, and the canal itself is a quiet place to sit outside on a sunny day.

Review summary
Across 16 detailed Google reviews, The Hacker Building comes across as a community-driven coworking space for start-ups and freelancers, set in a charming old building on the Herengracht, close to the city centre. Community is by far the strongest theme. Members describe extremely friendly and helpful people, a building full of start-ups and freelancers with "a high super nerd density", and a very heavy focus on community, summed up by one reviewer as "from the community for the community". The atmosphere follows suit: reviewers mention great vibes and an endearing environment in a building with beautiful floors and ceiling ornaments, plenty of room and a lot of natural light. The shared facilities add to the appeal. Members mention a spacious, fully equipped kitchen and a coffee machine downstairs, and the garden is a clear standout, described by one as absolutely gorgeous. Reviewers also point to an individual booth for phone calls, the option to host a small meetup, a good balance of price and quality, and an owner who makes things very easy. None of the 16 reviews raises a complaint. Quiet focus, Wi-Fi and meeting rooms are not discussed, so the reviews say nothing about those practical details, and events and phone booths each rest on a single mention.
