Grote Bickersstraat 74-78, 1013KS, Amsterdam, Netherlands
Spaces De Walvis sits on Grote Bickersstraat in the Westelijke Eilanden (Western Islands) — a former warehouse and harbour district that has evolved into one of Amsterdam's more characterful neighbourhoods. The area is defined by 17th-century canal island architecture, independent boutiques, bookshops, and a quieter pace than the city centre, while remaining within easy reach of it. The Jordaan and the historic centre are walkable, and Central Station is reachable within a short tram or cycle ride, connecting the location to the wider Amsterdam rail and metro network. The immediate surroundings include cafés, independent eateries, and waterside streets — useful for a change of scene during a break. Bickerseiland's blend of residential calm and creative character makes it a distinctive base compared to more generic office districts elsewhere in Amsterdam.

Review summary
Across 13 detailed Google reviews, Spaces De Walvis comes through as a bright, well-located workspace in Amsterdam where the physical environment is the clearest draw. Members consistently praise the abundance of natural light, describing a setting that feels open and easy to spend a full day in. The atmosphere skews calm rather than hectic — reviewers note it is not too crowded, which helps with focus — and the broader community is characterised as friendly. The on-site food and drinks receive quiet but consistent appreciation, with members pointing to varied and tasty options, while meeting rooms and equipment round out a setup that covers most professional needs day-to-day. Location earns genuine praise, with members finding it excellent and well-connected for Amsterdam, though a small number find it slightly less central depending on where they are coming from. A few reviewers also flag that Wi-Fi signal is uneven across the space, which can be a friction point depending on where members choose to sit. The staff picture, however, is the most prominent concern in the reviews and carries the most weight in the evidence. While one or two members single out individuals — Danny is mentioned by name as providing great service — the majority of staff-related comments are critical. Billing practices draw particular frustration, with several members noting that positive account balances are not refunded, a recurring grievance that tempers what is otherwise an attractively presented workspace.
Members most consistently praise Light & space, Location, and Coffee & food. The most-raised point to know about is Staff & service.

I rented a private office at Spaces De Walvis with the intention of restarting my business operations in the Netherlands. To work, receive clients and use the office facilities as agreed. Unfortunately, my experience has been extremely disappointing. Access to the office was effectively blocked, while invoicing, additional charges and automated payment reminders continued. Despite multiple written attempts to resolve the situation, no substantive response was provided, and identical invoices kept being uploaded to my account. As a result, I was forced to arrange alternative workspaces and storage at my own expense, while still being billed for services I could not use. This situation reflects a serious lack of communication, accountability and customer care. I expected a professional approach from a global office provider, but the handling of this matter fell far below reasonable standards. I strongly recommend that prospective clients carefully review the contractual and service practices before committing.

I worked at this Spaces while in transit to my home city. The location is excellent, the interior is both beautiful and spacious, and the team is wonderful. Danny, in particular, provided great service.
