Since 2002, Schraubenfabrik has been doing coworking before most people knew the word — earning its self-styled title "Mother of Coworking" with two decades of proof. Set inside a converted factory in Vienna's Leopoldstadt, the space wears its heritage honestly: cast-asphalt floors, soaring ceilings, and the kind of light that makes you actually want to sit down and do something worthwhile. Around 50 members — entrepreneurs, NGOs, and creatives — form a community that's stayed tight-knit precisely because it never scaled past the point of knowing everyone's name. The 100 m² terrace is a genuine rarity for central Vienna; it's where ideas and lunch collide on a good afternoon. Whether you need focused solo work or the slow drift of conversation that turns into a collaboration, both have a place here. Schraubenfabrik is also part of a growing network including sister space Markhof and international coworking partners — roots in Vienna, reach across Europe. Rated 4.9 on Google.
18/2 Lilienbrunngasse, 1020, Vienna, Austria
Schraubenfabrik sits in Leopoldstadt, Vienna's 2nd district — historically layered, increasingly sought-after, and genuinely central without the tourist-trap polish of the 1st. The space occupies a courtyard position on Lilienbrunngasse 18, giving it a tucked-away calm that you wouldn't expect two minutes from a major transit hub. Schwedenplatz U-Bahn (lines U1 and U4) is the nearest stop, connecting you to the rest of Vienna in minutes. The Danube Canal is a short stroll away, lined with bars, pop-up spots, and the kind of afternoon-into-evening energy that Leopoldstadt does well. Praterstraße — with its cafés and independent shops — is close by, and the Naschmarkt-adjacent buzz of the inner city is easily reachable on foot or by tram. It's the sort of neighbourhood where a coworking space with community ideals makes complete sense.

A great co-working space in a pleasant environment. I found it particularly appealing that there was room for both exchange and community, as well as for retreat and focused work.

Wonderful, welcome co-working space centrally located in the heart of Vienna. Also a plus for English speakers - you won't feel out of place here.
