Switzerland's first coworking space, Citizen Space has been shaping Zürich's creative work culture since 2007 — and it shows in every corner. Housed inside the historic Steinfels soap factory in Kreis 5, the 1,500+ m² loft spans multiple floors and distinct spaces: open startup floors buzzing with founders, quieter rooms for focused work, and a character-rich lounge anchored by Vitra furniture, vintage tavern tables, and an Elektra barista espresso machine. The "Design meets Retro" aesthetic isn't a tagline — it's something you feel the moment you walk in. Freelancers and startups have been calling this place home for over 15 years, which gives the community a relaxed, genuinely welcoming depth that newer spaces take time to build. Plans range from CHF 29/day drop-in passes to 24/7 fixed-desk memberships, and curious newcomers can book a free trial day before committing. Ergonomic furniture, high-speed Wi-Fi, meeting rooms, and full reception support keep the workday running smoothly.

267n Heinrichstrasse, 8005, Zurich, Switzerland
Citizen Space sits at Heinrichstrasse 267n in Kreis 5 — Zürich West — one of the city's most distinctly creative quarters. The neighbourhood grew up around former industrial sites and has evolved into a hub for design studios, tech startups, galleries, and independent restaurants. Reviewers consistently mention good restaurants just around the corner, and the area rewards a short walk with cafés, bars, and cultural venues typical of the district's post-industrial character. The nearest transit stop is Saland, keeping the space well connected to the wider city without the density of the Hauptbahnhof district. Cyclists will find the location practical — the Letzigrund area and tram corridors are close by. The Steinfels factory complex itself is a local landmark: the building adds a sense of place and history that purely commercial office parks simply cannot replicate. For anyone working in Zürich's startup or creative ecosystem, Kreis 5 is exactly where you want to be.
The main entrance is at Heinrichstrasse 267n, 8005 Zürich (Kreis 5), in the former Steinfels soap factory complex. Space 07 has direct autonomous access from outside via a lift connecting it to Space 2015 and the ground floor. Members with 24/7 access plans are issued a key. During business hours (Mon–Fri 9:00–18:00), reception is available on-site. Visitors and daily ticket holders should check in at reception upon arrival.
Yes — Citizen Space Zürich offers a free trial day ('kostenloser Testtag') for anyone considering a membership. You can also book a guided tour or viewing appointment if you'd prefer to look around first.

To be fair, it is a very creative coworking space, especially in terms of its inventory. You really need to appreciate its uniqueness; otherwise, you might feel out of place. I personally loved it and highly recommend the warm and welcoming host, Sergio. The workplace I was assigned was outstanding, with an electric height-adjustable table and a big 34-inch curved monitor available for use. Truly impressive!
